Background description
Process description
Using ethylene glycol to dehydrate natural gas
Ethylene glycol can absorb water and separate it from natural gas. The absorbed water also contains pollutants, such as H2S, sulfur, and solid particles, which can make the water acidic and corrosive.
Low pH can be neutralized by adding sodium hydroxide. Then heat the glycol to 120°C to evaporate the water. The ethylene glycol can be recycled into the newly mined natural gas.
In addition to glycol injection, a large drying system or other chemical injection system for neutralization is usually required.
There are a variety of different treatment processes-from simple injection to the so-called high-speed tower (GESIP? process)-which ensures fast drying and can handle large natural gas streams.
